Note: Johann Hauser was an Outsider artist from Austria who suffered from mental illness throughout his life and career. In 1949, Hauser was committed to Maria Gugging  Psychiatric Clinic where a doctor encouraged him to draw. In the postwar era, several patients at Gugging became well-know for their Outsider art and are referred to as The Gugging Artists.
