No Reserve: 1967 Maserati Mexico 4.2 5-Speed

This 1967 Maserati Mexico is one of approximately 485 examples built between 1966 and 1972 and was purchased by the selling dealer from its previous owner of 36 years in 2022. The car is finished in Anthracite over Merlot leather upholstery, and power comes from a 4.2-liter quad-cam V8 paired with a ZF five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes four twin-choke Weber downdraft carburetors, 15″ Borrani wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, and a Blaupunkt cassette player. Service performed between 2021 and 2022 reportedly included the installation of engine gaskets, a clutch pilot bearing, and a muffler as well as rebuilds of the starter, alternator, water pump, and rear brake calipers. This Mexico is now offered at no reserve in Blaine, Washington, with factory literature and a clean Ohio title.

The Mexico was introduced in August 1966 with Vignale bodywork based on that of a one-off prototype, and the production car rode on a shortened version of the unibody chassis used by the contemporary Quattroporte. Styling details included four headlights set in chrome shrouds as well as fender vents, chrome rocker panel trim, and round side markers. This example is said to have been previously finished in yellow before it was repainted in its current Anthracite in 1987.

The 15″ Borrani wire wheels are said to have been refurbished by Dayton Wire Wheels in 1987. They are secured by three-eared spinners and are mounted with 215/70VR15 Yokohama A-321VR tires. A matching spare wheel with a Pirelli P5 tire is mounted beneath the trunk floor. The coil-sprung, double-wishbone front suspension and leaf-sprung solid rear axle each incorporate an anti-roll bar and telescopic shock absorbers. Stopping is handled by four-wheel disc brakes. The rear calipers are said to have been rebuilt in 2022.

The cabin features front bucket seats that were retrimmed in Merlot vinyl in 1987, while the leather surfaces on the rear bench, door panels, and center console were dyed to match at that time. Black carpets line the floors, and wood trim is fitted on the dash panel, shift knob, center console, and door caps. Additional equipment includes a Blaupunkt Denver cassette player, a locking glovebox, front lap belts, and Maserati-branded floor mats. The Smiths clock does not work.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Maserati-branded Smiths instrumentation including a 300-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline, and gauges monitoring coolant temperature, oil pressure, oil temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 60k kilometers (~37k miles). Total mileage is unknown.

The 4.2-liter Tipo AM112 V8 features an aluminum block and cylinder heads as well as dual overhead camshafts on each bank, hemispherical combustion chambers, and quad Weber downdraft carburetors. Output was factory rated at 260 horsepower at 5,000 rpm. An engine-out service was reportedly completed in 2022 and included the installation of replacement cylinder head and valve cover gaskets, a rear main seal, and intake manifold O-rings in addition to adjustments of the valves and timing chains and rebuilds of the alternator, starter, and water pump. The headers were also ceramic-coated at that time.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a ZF five-speed manual transmission. The clutch bearing was replaced in 2022, at which time the flywheel was resurfaced and the muffler replaced.
