Comic Book Hero – books we’d like for Christmas

There has been a plethora of books about comic book creators released over the last few months, many of which we’d like on our Christmas list at ComicsFlix towers.  We will be mentioning a few of them we’d like to see in our stocking over the next few weeks.

First up is a book released in September. In the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, children’s comics were a massive part of a young person’s life. Comic Book Hero tells the inside story of how Barrie Tomlinson built up a successful boys’ publishing group at IPC Magazines–now the stuff of legend among nostalgic and modern-day fans of the UK comic scene and its surrounding culture. Barrie started on Tiger comic as a subeditor, went on to be editor, and eventually became head of the Boys’ Sport and Adventure Department, in which capacity he launched Roy of the Rovers comic (covered in his book Real Roy of the Rovers stuff) , the new Eagle, Scream, Speed, Wildcat, Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, and Toxic Crusaders.

With the forthcoming release of the Scream and Misty Halloween Special this book will give you an insight into that title and it’s one we’d recommend as essential reading between the Queen’s Speech and Doctor Who on Christmas Day!
