In the early 1950s, Volkswagen wanted to be able to offer a more stylish and elegant car in addition to the Beetle. It turned to coachbuilder Karmann of Osnabrück, which entered into a collaboration with the Italian design firm Ghia of Turin. It became a successful collaboration and the first Volkswagen Karmann Ghia walked off the assembly line in Osnabrück in 1955. The car was built on the chassis of the Beetle and received the same air-cooled boxer engine in the rear. The Karmann Ghia produced no real sports performance, but its attractive two-door model and reliable technology made the car extremely popular.In 1959, a facelift version came, recognizable by the enlarged grilles in the nose, the changed position of the headlights and the modified taillights. It is this version that is offered at Classic Park. It featured a rear-mounted 1493cc four-cylinder boxer engine mated to a semi-automatic transmission. The Karmann Ghia was newly delivered in the Netherlands and has had ééone owner since 1990.In the past, the car has been restored where the paint and interior have been renewed. The engine has also been restored. The Karmann Ghia has a glossy dark blue metallic paint and a beautiful contrasting crème colored faux leather interior. The whole is in very good condition.
