SL 63 AMG competition

I'm trying to compare cars and the FL comparison selection is not letting me see any SL-class model (other than the AMG 43 one). Even the S-Class models are very limited. I guess it's because Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG have far too many models to choose from.

The funny thing is that if you subtract .4 from each acceleration figure in the metric section it matches the rollout-accounted times in the imperial section. 0-60mph = 3.0s -> 0-100km/h = 3.1s, 0-100mph & 0-160km/h = 7.1s, 0-200km/h = 11.0s -> 1/4-mile in 11.1s @ 125mph.

Great minds think alike, Chiron SS!!!
I have just after reading the full 8 page road test of the Mercedes AMG SL63 whilst having my breakfast today.
Autocar, though, seem to be nitpicking with regards to this car.
They say it is nowhere near as good as a Bentley Continental GTC V8S or Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.
That's seems fair enough of course.
Both those cars are formidable opposition.
But I must say the acceleration figures in miles per hour are extremely good.
I wonder if I will ever see a 2023 SL - even the basic model.
Anyway, I must thank YOU for providing the full road test here, Chiron SS.
Thumbs up from Flt158

If I remember correctly the "SL" stands for "sportish und leicht". What can be lighter than a 1.9 tonne 2-door? Light as a feather 🙃

One of the more beautiful new cars. The slightly upward sloping, curvy "backside" reminds of Porsche 911 a little bit. But its a longer car, of course.
Well done, Mercedes!

AMGs and Ms have surprisingly gotten slower in the (ungoverned) top speed department. The SL55 and SL63 could reach 208mph, the SL600 (although not technically AMG) could do 211mph, the SL65 AMG could do 216mph all back in the 2000s.
It's even worse that the new SL63 makes more power than advertised like all modern Benzes. With 650-700 actual hp is what's required to reach the 208mph of the "old" SL55/63.
The "old" M6 had a theoretical 211 mph top end (202-205 mph in real life). Today, an M8 barely even does 200 without the limiter.

There was a time when between the model distinctions were completely differentiated engines and capacities. I.e. SL55 was a supercharged V8 and the SL65 was a twin turbocharged V12.
Comparing the specifications between the new ones it's simply, atleast on the engine side a simple ECU remap. I'm sure it's not quite that simple, but yes it is.
