When Androgyny Isn’t Helpful

Today, I came upon this photo of Tragic Fashion Boy today on a fashion blog, with this caption:

“She has this androgynous petit gamin look that’s just fascinating. A good example of how the guests can really bring a designer’s vision to life at a fashion show.”

Oh dear! Is TFB pushing the petit gamin thing too far? Or is it a heinous lapse of cultural literacy on the part of the blogger, who should be able to identify TFB as easily as Leigh Lezark and Daphne Guiness?

On the bright side, when I showed this picture to my son’s girlfriend, she exclaimed, “Tragic Fashion Boy!” So my work is done.

  1. Obviously it is Tragic Fashion Boy, perhaps he’s selling himself as a she? He needs his ears sorted first before he moves on to a new level.

  2. JimmyP says:

To be truly androgynous, we need to be a petit gamine – and the third that walks beside us will want a proper pair of knees.
    {signed} …Iertium Quid ….

  3. Eliza says:

It doesn’t get any more androgynous than a skeleton.

  4. Pudfish says:

Oh this poor boy, he is so thin, he needs help, if I were his mother it would break my heart to see him looking so frail

  5. Stella Mayfair says:

looks like TFB just graduated from emaciation high

  6. Faux Fuchsia says:

    Boyfriend needs some carbs.

  7. Poor TFB – So thin he can’t hold up his own head!

  8. Ann says:

Maybe the blogger is right and TFB is actually TFG?

Gross – his calves are literally bigger than his thighs. Where did TFB even find pants that skinny? I doubt he weighs over 90 lbs, seriously.

Glad to hear Girlfriend of Wolf has been paying attention! Her life is richer for it!

  9. andrea says:

I saw a video of him and he actually seemed quite sweet, very different than how I thought he would be. His name is Charles Guislain. Hearing him speak changed my opinion of him, which was based solely on his appearance. He does need to eat, though. A lot. Reminds me of a gangly newborn foal, all unsteady on his feet- don’t his feet look like little hooves?

  10. I’m alarmed by the fact that his knees are the biggest part of his legs, like a baby giraffe.

  11. Didn’t Sart post an image of this individual in black and white? That image reminded me of a theatrical shot of Kristin McMenamy and this one, with his obviously undernourished body in proportion to his kneecaps, just worries me for this young man’s health.

  12. Stella Mayfair says:

andrea, i saw that video too. he really seemed like a nice kid, which usually makes me feel completely mean whenever i make fun of him.
he is quite serious about wanting to work in fashion and already got rick owens backing him up, or so i’ve heard.
okay, little charles, i wish you all the best. but pleeeeease, eat something.

  13. Buddha says:

In my world he would be hospitalized and seeing a therapist. This is not fashion or beauty but an illness. I would take bets that no doctor, Western or Eastern (Conventional or Alternative), would look at him and say he was healthy!

  14. What is with boys these days going for the skinniest in the room look? I worry about my coffee shop boy when he makes my americanos, I’m worried he’s going to pass out from the effort.

  15. gretchen says:

a friend of my daughter has much the same build – eats everything and is from a Mexican family where the others are ‘normal’ shapes. This girl is now 26 and maybe wears a size zero…it’s just how she’s built, could be the same for this boy.

  16. dust says:

The kid is still developing and growing. Look closer, he didn’t shaved yet for the first time or formed a full facial features. Baby giraffe, exactly! Stop poking on kids, I thought you love children. Oh, no, you love babies, not bony ass teens…

  17. Trashforce Reaper says:

I think his success stems from the fact that the fashion industry just loves childlike bodies. Tragic fashion boy is the perfect poster-child because he is exactly that – a child. They can drape him in as much challenging Rick owens as they want and he’ll still be more gamine than any of us adults will manage.

  18. Sister Wolf says:

dust – I didn’t mean to pick on him! I am amused by the blogger’s mistake!!!

I’m certain that TFB is living EXACTLY the life he wants! He wants to be noticed, he wants to go to fashion shoes, he wants to hobnob with designers…bingo!

I do love babies. I love children, too, and I love underdogs. Teenagers, I am conflicted about. Because I have one.

  19. dust says:

Yes, teenagers, damn them! They need to do more sports!

Sorry Sister, didn’t mean to poke you, just got distracted by his spidery features and felt sorry for him, instinctively. Shit, I was maternal toward TFB… Can I be next cunt of the week? I’d like at least to qualify…once

  20. dust says:

Oh, forgot to add that his and SOS’s provocation is completely impotent, reasons are just same-same-but-different. If looks could kill, their wouldn’t kill a fly.

  21. Anjuna says:

@ the first comment on sister wolf ‘love connection’ bus …Seriously? His ears? That’s the best you could come up with?

To be honest, I think ‘tragic fashion boy’ as you like to call him, as an amazing (androgynous indeed) style. That’s not the point here though, I agree he should gain some weight! A lot more actually. Not healthy looking for sure.
As I agree that so called ‘fashion blogger’ should know who he/she is talking about before sounding like an ignorant fool.

Although the weight is an issue, I find it interesting how I don’t recall people agreeing with you on your Jessica Simpson post. (…)’she is fat, let’s just admit it’. There was no irony there, SHE IS.

    Mirror, mirror on the wall…

  22. Sister Wolf says:

dust – You’re going to have to work overtime to be COTW. I love you too much, for one thing.

Anjuna – I wish I could figure out what you’re talking about. Are you trying to be “snarky” or what??

  23. Alicia says:

Aww! YAY for the gf fitting in!

He doesn’t look like a girl, though. I don’t get the mixup.

  24. Anjuna says:

    ..what do you think Sister?

I actually read your post, aswell as your comments. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then who knows?

    I don’t think I could be clearer.

  25. theresa says:

i miss his red cape. it distracted from his obvious death wish.

    this is sad.

  26. Sister Wolf says:

theresa – Me too. It was so papal/matador. I hope his mom didn’t take it away.

  27. aine says:

aww i feel bad for that blogger, i’ve made tons of mistakes like that i couldnt pronounce yves st laurent properly for a long time. He does look quite girlish in this photo but those massive feet should have been a tip off. Anyway i hope he’s staying healthy but from the look of his legs he probably isnt

  28. Isabel says:

That kid has a serious eating disorder. He looks fucking disgusting.

  29. Mia says:

    Someone feed this creature, please!

  30. Dru says:

I actually did mistake him for a girl in one of the photographs with his red cape (couldn’t see his face in it), but in all honesty, it could be his natural build+the puberty growth spurt. I had a classmate in school who looked a lot like that- the girl was 5’9″, shovelled food away and did not bring it back up, and kept looking like a toothpick the entire time. Maybe he’s just one of those?

  31. Dru says:

That cape or whatever it is he’s wearing, it looks weirdly like a priest’s outfit. Not that I don’t appreciate his style, but it’s just fun to notice this stuff.

  32. The Eye Collector says:

Oh dear, this photo brings me out in a maternal rash. What a poor thin little deer-child – I want to take him home and feed him chocolate cake.

  33. cardy boots says:

Have a good day! Thanks for sharing. :0
