Thank you, Chief Christopher Trucillo. 🚨 𝐒𝐂𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓 🚨 New Jersey Transit Police Detectives are investigating a recent cell phone scam like the below pattern. Although this scam occurs abroad, we want you aware when traveling the system. To protect your money, 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞. Here’s why: Scammers are approaching potential victims and requesting to use their phone to make an emergency call. Or, the scammers request a donation be made to an important cause. In some cases, young children are involved. With the victim’s phone in hand, the scammers discreetly open banking / payment apps. The scammers then fraudulently transfer funds to themselves or their associates. This can include a large transfer of money in seconds while the victim is unaware.
