Kathryn Lasky
Kathryn Lasky is a nonfiction writer who grew up in the suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana with her father, her mother, and her big sister Martha. It was only when she started sharing with her parents, that she decided to become an author. She was born on June 24, 1944, and is 68 years old. Lasky is a descendent of a family who escaped from Czarist Russia to avoid religious persecution, and this event inspired her to write a couple of the books she wrote. Kathryn went to the University of Michigan where she majored in English. She developed a special interest in Victorian Literature, Romanticism, and the Renaissance. Kathryn began working as a writer for a fashion magazine after graduating, and later became a teacher. She met and married Christopher Knight, a national geographic photographer, and documentary filmmaker while teaching. After returning from her second voyage across the Atlantic ocean with her husband, she began writing children’s book.
Since then she has written many children’s books, including nonfiction, fiction, and picture books. She writes books for all kinds of ages, including Children, Adults, and Teenagers. Kathryn has two children, and sites her family as the most important inspiration for her books. When doing research for a book, she begins in the children’s section of a public library. She is praised for exploring topics not often covered in books for the young. She lives with her husband in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has a son, named Max who goes to college at Dartmouth, and a daughter named Meribah, who is a junior at high school.
Kathryn has written the Guardians of Ga’hoole series, the Wolves of the Beyond series, The Royal Diaries series, the Camp Princess book ,the Dear America book , the My name is America book, and the Daughters of the Sea series. She is a Newberry honor author of over one hundred fiction and nonfiction titles. Kathryn is mostly known for the Guardians of Ga’hoole, and The Wolves of the Beyond series. Her first book was I Have Four Names for My Grandfather which was published while she was teaching. Her first Guardians of Ga'Hoole book called The Capture, was made into a movie based off her book, and it is called Legend of the Guardians, The Owls of Ga'Hoole.
