Mariah Carey’s dating history: From ex-husband Nick Cannon to dancer Bryan Tanaka

They don’t belong together.

Mariah Carey has a star-studded dating history, with her relationship roster boasting professional baseball players, singers, models and more.

The Grammy winner has kept quiet about many more rumored romances, from musician Marcus Schenkenberg to actor Benet — and she has repeatedly flat-out denied any connection with Eminem.

Carey, who has been in many high-profile relationships and tied the knot twice, most recently made headlines for her split from backup dancer Bryan Tanaka.

The longtime couple called it quits in December 2023 after seven years together. Now, Page Six is diving deeper into Carey’s love life below.

Tommy Mottola

Carey met Sony Music executive Tommy Mottola at a party, and the performer was 23 when she married the then-43-year-old five years later in June 1993.

The duo divorced in 1998, and she waited to peel back the curtain on their breakup until releasing her September 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”

The songwriter alleged that her ex-husband had a “dense and oppressive” presence that kept her “walking on eggshells” during their time together.

“It felt like he was cutting off my circulation, keeping me from my friends and what little ‘family’ I had,” she claimed. “I couldn’t talk to anyone that wasn’t under Tommy’s control. I couldn’t go out or do anything with anybody. I couldn’t move freely in my own house.”

Carey alleged that she pulled the plug after Mottola threatened her with a butter knife, going on to write that he “used all his power and connections to punish” her when she left both him and Sony Music.

Mottola, who apologized for his “controlling” and “obsessive” behavior in his 2013 “Hitmaker” book, wished his ex-wife “the very best” before her own memoir hit shelves.

Derek Jeter

She had an affair with Derek Jeter during the marriage.

Carey began her affair with MLB player Derek Jeter while married to Mottola, with the pair dating from 1997 to 1998 after meeting at a dinner party.

“It was so sensual,” Carey gushed to readers of their romance in 2020. “Everything was so new and sweet, down to the smooth texture of his honey-dropped skin … It was so heady, so intoxicating, and I was so vulnerable. I was in touch with a fire I didn’t know I had inside.”

Her time with the athlete was a “short and sweet dream” and led her to write “The Roof” and “My All.”

Luis Miguel

The Grammy winner and Luis Miguel dated for three years.

Following her split from Jeter, Carey moved on with singer Luis Miguel from 1998 to 2001.

The American Music Award winner has since described her ex as “an authentic, over-the-top Latin lover” who sent her a Bulgari necklace after getting “drunk off his ass” on their first date and bought her a hot tub as a Christmas gift.

Although the musicians bonded over their careers, Carey wrote that they split over the “cultural gaps between [them] when it came to race,” as well as the “dark cloud hanging over the … erratic and anxious” record producer.

Christian Monzon

In 2005, Carey and model Christian Monzon met on the set of her “Don’t Forget About Us” music video while playing love interests and briefly dated until 2006.

The actress called Monzon a “nice guy” in an interview with The Mirror.

“Men tend to go off me when they find out I’m a prude,” she said. “They either turn into my big brother or else they stop talking to me. Luckily, I have a lot of male friends who have gone way, way past that whole sexual thing.”

Nick Cannon

Carey’s second marriage was to Nick Cannon, whom she met at the Teen Choice Awards in 2005 and began dating three years later.

The couple tied the knot in April 2008, going on to welcome twins Moroccan and Monroe in 2011.

When the pair finalized their divorce in 2016, two years after announcing their separation, they agreed to joint custody of their son and daughter.

Cannon, who is now the father of 10 more children with five different women, has praised his ex in many interviews since their split.

“That woman is not human. She’s a gift from God,” the “Masked Singer” judge told the Shade Room in 2023 before referring to her as the “love of [his] life.”

As for Carey, she gave People insight into their co-parenting dynamic in 2019, saying, “I think Nick and I have done pretty well … staying friends with each other so that we can talk.”

James Packer

One year after Carey met billionaire James Packer at the 2015 “Hercules” movie premiere, they went public with their romance.

The pair were engaged from January to October 2016, with Carey rocking a 35-carat diamond ring at the time.

Packer was never mentioned in her memoir, with Carey confessing to the Guardian that he was left out since she didn’t “have a physical relationship” with the Aussie businessman.

Bryan Tanaka

Carey was linked to Tanaka in December 2016, with their romance kicking off 10 years after he toured as her backup dancer.

She confirmed their relationship in February of the following year by calling him her “boyfriend” in an Associated Press interview.

Although the couple broke up in 2017, their time apart was brief.

Split speculation swirled again in November 2023 when Tanaka was noticeably missing from Carey’s “Merry Christmas One and All! ” tour, as well as her annual Aspen trip the following month.

Page Six confirmed their breakup in December 2023, with a source telling us that the choreographer “wanted to have a family.”

The insider noted, “That’s not where she’s at.”
