Born in Melbourne in 1965, Peter Alexander was not academic at all, but this fact didn't affect his bright future.
It started as Peter selling pyjamas wholesale and online, but by 1988 Peter Alexander pyjamas were sold in many major department stores including Myer and Target. Also another major part of his business included Mail order. The mail order part of his business had grown so vastly, by 1990, pyjamas were being sent all over the world.
After this event of his life, business was booming. This lead to Peter winning the Australian Designer of the Year award in 1992. As his work began to spread worldwide, international buyer were more interested in his pyjamas. This eventually caused the developments of negotiations in 1996 to take his business to the US.
In 1997 Peter’s dog, Penelope, became the loved mascot for his brand and business. His dog became a vital part of his brand. Penelope started to appear in photoshoots and catalogues. She was also a sign that Peter cared for the welfare of animals, most obviously dogs.
2000. It was a ginormous year for Peter’s business as this was the year that it joined the Australian retail company, The Just Group. Then later in 2004 more of Peter’s dreams came true when he opened his first stand-alone store in Melbourne Central Shopping Centre and it was a huge success.
The business’s 20th anniversary was the year 2007, being a successful brand in Australia, US was the next target for Peter Alexander Sleepwear and the Just Group. Eventually in 2008, a store was launched in the U.S. But that’s not the end of it, soon after 2 more stores were opened.
2009 was more of a downfall year. Never the less, it started of with a bang when Peter joined forces with one of his many celebrity followers, Katherine Heigl to help raise fund for dog shelters. And now the bad news come in when the US stores were shut down due to $4 million in losses because of the Global Financial Crisis.
However business was back to normal with a store opening in New Zealand.
2012. It was the 25th anniversary of the Peter Alexander business. It had become so large that there were 50 stores in total between Australia and New Zealand.
