So, for my advanced drawing class (Taking it a second time for more credit hours) i'm doing a series of paleo-art, mostly paleo-primates. I've been finishing about one a week or so, and it's been a blast. Unfortunately it's also been why commissions are a bit slow, but i swear swear swear im working on them!! I just dont have as much time as i thought i did. (screw you senior year!)
Anyway, this is gigantopithecus blacki. This is a relative of orangs, but it was likely terrestrial, ate bamboo, and possibly may have had a similar apperance to modern gorillas. Noone's sure though, because all we have is some teeth and a jaw bone. So a LOT of this was guess work and just me trying to find a balance that didnt look stupid. Any input is greatly appreciated!

didnt they used to compete with the ancestors of pandas??
y'know im not sure, I think pandas may have been farther north and east.
YES !!!!! I am so happy to see this I absolutely love it, and the species. I can't "correct" anything but I love the mix of anatomy. It feels right.
Lovely line work and subdued coloring! Like that "blur" effect on the bamboo. Who knows, maybe what we refer to as "Bigfoot" is a distant descendent of gigantopithecus.
