'Ruins of a Cloister in Messines', December 1914. Adolf Hitler often claimed to be a frustrated artist, and art was one of his major interests throughout his life. He produced many paintings, predominantly landscapes, postcard scenes and urban views, and there was a considerable market for his work during the Third Reich. This example of his work was reproduced in a coffee table book about Hitler published during the Third Reich, millions of copies of which were printed. By 1938 Hitler had decided to prohibit reproductions of his paintings. A print from Adolf Hitler. Bilder aus dem Leben des Führers, Hamburg: Cigaretten/Bilderdienst Hamburg/Bahrenfeld, 1936.
