The perfect “Sheep-Crime” literature.
Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2012
I hope it is very good. I accidently ordered it in German, and I have yet to see if it is in English. Life has been extremely busy. but this has come highly recommended by friends. I didn't realize books were available in German were also on this web site. Today I saw others avaailable in other languages. I will have to be more careful in the future. cmoragape

I absolutely love-love-loved this book in English (Titled 'Three Bags Full') and am trying to learn German; now I just need to get my hands on the German audio version so that I can follow along...

A clever murder mystery told from the point of view of a flock of sheep whose herder turns up dead. I laughed out loud again and again. Good for German readers at the intermediate to advanced intermediate levels, B1/B2.

A gentle story that reflects the authors background in literature and psychology. The gifted ewe Miss Maple works to solve the mystery of her shepherds untimely murder due to a spade in his heart. The characterizations of her fellow sheep and their view of town society make for a light but satisfying read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I hope this is truly how sheep see the world. A wonderful book.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 7, 2018
A German friend of mine bought the English version of this to practice reading fiction in English when she moved back. She only found out afterwards that in fact, the original was in German! So I bought her the original to enjoy, too and to compare the translation to the original.

We both love this book - the pun on Miss Marple is well appreciated, and the teamworking methods the sheep use to solve the mystery are a lesson to anyone who tends to be over-critical of their abilities - nobody is good at everything, but together even the most apparently incompetent sheep can find out what they're good at, and make a big difference in the end. (As isolated PhD students at the time, we took great comfort from this idea).

As an Irish person who's spent a lot of time in the west of the country, I was impressed at Leonie Swann's reconstruction of the area's eccentricities, and as for the personalities of each sheep in the flock - her work is a delight. The mix of humour with a believable ovine view of the world make this one of my favourites.

4.0 out of 5 stars Les moutons mènent l'enquête ^^

5.0 out of 5 stars Gelungener Schafskrimi
Reviewed in Germany on January 7, 2009
rätseln, was passiert ist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for improving vocabulary
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 13, 2021
Great for the Intermediate learner who has a reasonable vocabulary and is prepared to use a dictionary fairl extensively. Fabulous idea and very amusing. I might end up buying the English translation and reading a chapter in German followed by the same Chapter in English. At the moment it's hard going but fun. My vocabulary about sheep is coming on leaps and bounds!!!

Divertissant!!!
