How To Paint Movement In Water Using Watercolour

Watercolour painting of a tree-covered island, surrounded by swirling water

I teamed up with Etchr to put together this free watercolour demo about painting swirling seas! Grab some paints and paper, and paint along!

Materials:

  • Indanthrone Blue or Indigo

  • Dioxazine Purple

  • Burnt Sienna or Quinacridone Burnt Orange

  • Yellow Ochre

  • Phthalo Green (Blue Shade)

  • Hansa Yellow Medium

  • Watercolour paper (I used Etchr’s A4 Landscape Sketchbook. I also recommend Fabriano Artistico Cold Press or Arches Cold Press paper)

  • Brushes- a small round and a large round or mop

  • Pots of water (one for clean water, one for dirty)

  • Masking tape if you want to stretch your paper or create neat edges
