Candice Bergen reveals she suffered a minor stroke and some memory loss more than five years ago
Memory loss: Candice Bergen, pictured last November admitted she suffered a minor stroke in 2006
Veteran actress Candice Bergen has revealed she suffered a minor stroke back in 2006, which left her with some memory loss.
In an interview with New York magazine, the 65-year-old actress revealed she only took two weeks off working on TV show Boston Legal to recover.
But six years later 'my memory is just... it's not quite the same,' she admits.
The star, who is making her Broadway début in Gore Vidal's The Best Man says she was reluctant to admit it because 'I just don't want it to be a liability.'
And her memory problems even caused Bergen to feel nervous about taking on the theatre role:
'My concern with theatre was no retakes,' she admits. 'I had no confidence in my memory, and I didn’t want to leave my husband who believes very much in a marriage where you’re present.'
Bergen has been married to real estate magnate and philanthropist Marshall Rose for 11 years.
Unfortunately, the minor stroke hasn't been Bergen's only health issue of late.
Happy marriage: Candice and husband Marshall Rose have been wed for more than ten years
She also fell and broke her pelvis while riding her bike five months ago.
However, unlike many actresses her age, she embraces growing old.
'People complain about parts for women, people complain about getting old,' she says. 'It’s a privilege to get old.
'The reality is that I don’t look like I used to look. I just don’t care enough, and in a way it’s saved me.'
Along with Boston Legal, Bergen has also starred in Gandhi, Miss Congeniality, Sex and the City, and House.
Legal eagle: Candice starred as Shirley Schmidt in Boston Legal from 2004- 2008
