About this product

Product Information

The lives of a sixteen-year-old Nigerian orphan and a well-off British woman collide in this page-turning #1 New York Times bestseller, book club favorite, and " affecting story of human triumph" ( The New York Times Book Review ) from Chris Cleave, author of Gold and Everyone Brave Is Forgiven . We don't want to tell you too much about this book. It is a truly special story and we don't want to spoil it. Nevertheless, you need to know something, so we will just say this: It is extremely funny, but the African beach scene is horrific. The story starts there, but the book doesn't. And it's what happens afterward that is most important. Once you have read it, you'll want to tell everyone about it. When you do, please don't tell them what happens either. The magic is in how it unfolds.

Thank you so so very much for working with me! This seller is incredible in my book (no pun intended). I don't think I have ever had a seller ship an item and I received it 2 (yes TWO) days later. So this seller shipped lightening fast, packaged this collectors-item book so so well and the price was very fair. I would gladly us this seller first for any item listed that I was looking for. A+++++++++

Chris Cleave is a Novelist and a Journalist. He lives in London with his wife and three kids. His second novel, “Little Bee,” is a New York Times #1 Bestseller. After reading this book, I can truly understand why it is a bestseller. I had never heard of Chris Cleave. When I saw the title on the Bestsellers List, I really had no interest in reading it. However, I heard so many good things about it so I decided to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. This novel blew me away. Little Bee is a teenage girl from Nigeria who finds herself in an immigration detention center in London. She has experienced so much pain and suffering during her short life. The atrocities that Little Bee and her family have had to endure are almost unimaginable. Cleave paints this picture very well. He ...

  • Inspiring and courageous though wordy at times.

It didn't take me too long to get through this book but it was only because I had to skip lengthy dialogue to get to the point of the topic of a chapter. Though I did find myself wanting to know more about what happened to both of these women. Sadly, in the end, I was still left with not really knowing how it all ended for them. This story is interesting though I found way too wordy and it kept jumping from beginning to end which, for me, is OK in the movies but I found it difficult to follow in a book and it also took me places I felt I didn't need to go that was not truly a part of that story line, those are the parts I skipped. It did move me emotionally, and I saw a courage that left me asking, how far would I go to save the life of another. Which, if that is what the author was trying ...

  • Good Book

This author is very gifted. I enjoyed reading this book, however, the ending left me feeling frustrated that Little Bee had done so much and still was not able to enjoy a long life. I guess I just like books with a happy ending. It was really good though.

  • You won't regret it.

Pretty great. Thought-provoking. Cleave's voice is astounding; his characters read as unique and distinct people. I felt some parts were a bit overwrought but I'm sure that was just me.

  • Great book, worth the read.

My daughter requested this book after hearing about it at school. She is an advanced student in 8th grade and loves to read. She dove into this book and has had a hard time putting it down. She said that it is a sad, great story and recommends it highly.
