This is a reproduction of a Lascaux deer as I imagine it might have looked, freshly painted 15,000 years ago. Burnt umber pigment paint is blown and hand-painted onto stone, then I carve in to the surface to bring out detail, recreating in miniature the art techniques of the first artists. The earth pigment paint I use can handle direct sunlight, and, with care, could last another 15,000 years!

This piece of California gold sandstone seemed perfect for the deer. Bands of beautiful gold, bronze and sunrise blush complement the deer and silver mica gives the stone a subtle shine in the light. The stone is 12" x 10.5" (26.8 x 30.8 cm).

It is signed on the back, and has a hanging wire securely epoxied on the back. The stone comes with an information card which gives a brief story about the art and techniques.
