Pikk romantiline suvi koos salaarmastusega?

Just tema heaolu nimel on Desmond temast eemale hoidnud. Aga kui naise naer tema üksildase villa elule äratab, ei ole ta enam kindel, kui kaua ta suudab kiusatusele vastu panna.

(Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

Easy reading, extremely predictable and sweet like a Hallmark movie but ya know sometimes that's just what a bitch needs.

Sweet and heartwarming. Easy, predictable plot perfect for a lazy summer day. The story alternates between Nissa and Desmond, so it's nice to get the story from both POVs.

I think that I would have enjoyed this book better had I read it the old-fashioned way. The male narrator did an excellent job. His male voice was swoon worthy and his female voice was fun and quirky just like the character. The problem for me was the female narrator. Her cadence definitely took away from my enjoyment. She paused at the weirdest times and when she was reading, her narration more often than not made me pause just to think how much better I myself could've read that sentence to portray the emotion I thought the author was going for. I wouldn't call her horrible, diet I would say that I would not easily choose to listen to a book she was narrating again.

Other than my issues with the narration, I enjoyed the story and even with my desire to smack Desmond in the back of the head on several occasions, I was very happy with the outcome. Enjoy!

I listened to the audiobook version. I enjoyed this book very much, it was light and easy and just perfect for a summer day reading on the beach.

From the Publisher: Nissa Lang knows Desmond Stilling is out of her league. He’s a CEO, she’s a teacher. He’s gorgeous, she’s…not. So when her house-sitting gig falls through and Desmond offers her a place to stay for the summer, she vows not to reveal how she’s felt about him since their first—and only—kiss.

Desmond should’ve known better than to bring temptation into his house. He decided long ago that his best friend’s sister was too sweet, too good, for him. She deserves a guy who can give his heart. For her sake, he’s stayed away. But as her laughter breathes life into his lonely mansion, he’s not sure how long he’ll be able to resist.

My Take: Sometimes I feel like I’m cheating when I listen to an audiobook, but I believe it gives the story a bit more depth. The narrators were great, and I liked the way they told the story.

Susan Mallery is an excellent writer and she paces this book exceptionally well. I’d say it’s a page-turner… but since I listened to the book, I’m not sure what you’d call that! Anyway, the writing flows nicely and I was engaged with the characters and were rooting for them the entire book.

About the Author: Susan Mallery is the #1 New York Times best-selling author of novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. Library Journal says, "Mallery is the master of blending emotionally believable characters in realistic situations," and readers seem to agree—40 million copies of her books have sold worldwide. Her warm, humorous stories make the world a happier place to live. Susan grew up in California and now lives in Seattle with her husband. She's passionate about animal welfare, especially that of the two ragdoll cats and an adorable poodle who think of her as mom.

Terrific friends to lovers story. Nissa is a teacher who takes temporary jobs during the summer to earn money for her dream trip to Italy. This summer, she accepts a house-sitting job, then sublets her condo for the summer for extra income. When the house-sitting job falls through, she has no place to stay. Since Nissa can't stay with her brother, he suggests staying with his best friend Desmond in his huge house. Nissa is reluctant because she's had a crush on Desmond since he stepped in to take her to prom when she was seventeen. Desmond remains a friend to their entire family, so she has buried her feelings for years.

Desmond became friends with Nissa's brother Shane when they attended the same boarding school. Desmond was tutored at home until he was sent away to school, so though he was book smart, his social skills were nonexistent. He was raised by parents whose marriage was more business merger than marriage and actively discouraged expressing emotions. Shane immediately befriended Desmond and absorbed him into his family, showing Desmond what a loving family looked like. Shane's family treated him as one of their own, and there is nothing Desmond wouldn't do for them. Inviting Nissa to stay with him is a no-brainer, but it also makes his life more difficult. He's never forgotten their goodnight kiss, but she deserves better than him.

I loved watching the relationship between Nissa and Desmond develop. Their friendship is strong already, thanks to knowing each other for so long. I loved how easily they talked and laughed and teased. But underneath the comfortable friendship, the sparks of attraction simmer and grow. Nissa believes that if Desmond had been interested in her all those years ago, he would have done something about it. So she keeps her unrequited feelings buried. Besides the fact that, at the time, Desmond felt he was too old for her, Nissa's brother made it clear it was hands-off his little sister. Having Nissa there now stirs up feelings Desmond doesn't know what to do with.

There are many sweet scenes of the two together, and it's easy to see that they get closer. I ached for Desmond as he shared his family life with Nissa and his conviction that, like his parents, he has no heart. He truly believes that he is incapable of love. No matter what she said, Nissa could not convince him otherwise. And yet, his obvious care for Nissa's friend Marisol and her daughters on their boat trip showed that there was more to him than he knew.

Desmond and Nissa's relationship undergoes a considerable change when she slips and confesses her attraction to him. I loved seeing how Nissa's frustrated rant led Desmond to prove that he was just as attracted, and things snowballed from there. The connection between them burned hot until interrupted by an emergency call from Marisol. I loved the effect that seeing Nissa drop everything for her friend had on Desmond. Though he's always been someone who supported charities and good causes, always ready with his checkbook, this is the first time Desmond experiences helping first-hand. He warmed my heart with how he brought Marisol's daughters to his house for Nissa to take care of them. He's so good with them, yet he can't see that it's because of his big heart. Even better, he involved himself even more deeply in their lives, planning a massive surprise for Marisol.

But when Nissa can no longer hide her feelings and tells Desmond of her love, Desmond panics and sends her away. His conviction that he has no heart and is incapable of love is too firm for Nissa to overcome. I ached for Nissa as she tried to deal with her broken heart. I also hurt for Desmond, who couldn't understand why he was so miserable. An unexpected call from his mother spurred Desmond's "aha" moment and a call to Nissa's father. I loved that conversation and the one in person a few hours later. Because Nissa's dad was almost a father to Desmond, too, he gave some fantastic advice. I especially loved the bit about groveling. Desmond's big moment was terrific. I liked the ring's description and would love to see a picture of the author's inspiration for it.

This audiobook served its purpose - a comforting author for me + a familiar narrator = a tranquil drive to and from work. Definitely not my favorite Susan Mallery book, and it seemed kind of abbreviated, but it was fine.

Before Summer Ends by Susan Mallery
5h 50m narrated by Jason Clarke and Tanya Eby, 187 pages

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Featuring: Dual POVs, Close Proximity Trope, Brother's Bestfriend Trope, Millionaire Trope, Sex-Detailed, Charity and Good Will, Book Preview - The Friendship List

Rating as a movie: R for adult content

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½💕

My thoughts: This story was okay. It was predictable, cheesy and heartwarming. More Hallmark than the usual Mallery book. The Friendship List was my first and hearing it a second time I don't know why I was so amazed by it.

Recommend to others: Maybe. If you're looking for a quick overly sweet romance this is it.

2 Typical and slightly boring stars

I wanted a short sweet listen. And this took way more time than I wanted. Plus I really didn’t like the female narrator. Was she a robot??
The story was brothers best friend to lover and that’s eh for me anyway but pair it with a bad narrator and I was bored.

I’ll try author again but not any time soon

Als een frisse zomerbries ~ Susan Mallery
Harlequin, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such a sweet story!! I loved it!! Apparently this book was audio only for like a year and the narrator was awful so it got bad reviews, which is unfair. Don’t let the reviews stop you from reading the book! Heartwarming and sweet!

I'm not very fast with reading ebooks so this one took me longer even though it was good. The author does a good job with creating a romantic atmosphere between friends Nissa and Desmond. I would like to see if Marisol has a story out there somewhere. She deserves some romance too!

This book was exactly what I was expecting it to be. I just wanted a basic short love story. Nothing too heavy. It checked all the boxes I was looking for at this moment with an added bonus..the male narrator. His voice reminded me of James Garner. Loved his voice!

4.5/5

A quick read with very likable characters and great resolutions for the entire cast of characters. The story is a little predictable at times, but that didn't bother me at all. The female lead, Nissa, loves dogs and gardening, which makes me love her even more. Her love interest, Desmond, is her brother's best friend, so Nissa has known him practically forever. In fact, he took her to her high school prom. I love Nissa's relationships with her family and her friends. One of my favorite things about Susan Mallery's stories are that she writes wonderful relationships between family and friends. An all-around good read, really enjoyed it.

Audiobook Notes: Jason Clarke and Tanya Eby narrate. I particularly loved Jason Clarke's narration. His voice for Desmond is very nice plus he does a really great job with the female voices in dialogue. Would recommend, would listen again! I listened to this free from Audible thru Audible Plus.

Before Summer Ends is the story of Nissa Lang, a teacher who decides to work extra jobs over summer to finance her dream trip to Italy. She even rents out her home, but then finds herself surprisingly in need of a place to stay. Her brother arranges that she can stay with his best friend Desmond Stilling. The problem? Nissa has had an unrequited crush on Desmond since high school.

I wanted to read this novel because I always enjoy Susan Mallery's books.

This is a relaxing read, a sweet love story about two people who so clearly belong together. At first I wasn't sure about Desmond; I was put off a bit by his wealth and privilege. However, as the book went on, I came to like and admire him for his decency and kindness, and I found myself really hoping that Nissa and Desmond would work things out.

Before Summer Ends is a heartwarming story, with Nissa's wide-ranging summer jobs (doggy day care worker, florist helper, bakery worker, sign spinner), two very different families (Nissa's and Desmond's), and Nissa and Desmond working together to help her friend Marisol's family when Marisol undergoes life-saving surgery.

This would be a wonderful Hallmark movie! It's a real feel-good story. I recommend Before Summer Ends for fans of heartwarming romance. It is a light, relatively short read, perfect for a weekend or a couple of reading evenings.

Great sweet book! Susan Mallery is one of my favorite authors. This story is about Nissa and Desmond, classic story about Nissa who has had a crush her brother’s best friend Desmond since they me when she was 14. Nissa and Desmond went to Nissa’s prom. After the prom Desmond told her brother he liked her but her brother told Desmond she was too young for him. Now many years later and Nissa needs a place to stay for the summer and Desmond invited Nissa to stay with him. Great book, highly recommended if your looking for a shorter, quick read.

Nissa Lang has always had a thing for her brother's friend Desmond Stilling. But she feels he is out of her league. She is a teacher and has off for the summer. She finds herself in a difficult position as she has rented out her place because she has a house sitting job over the summer. However, the house sitting job gets canceled and she is left with nowhere to stay.
Desmond offers his place for her to stay, as a friend of the family.
Desmond knows he is not the one for her.
Fun romance lots of adventures! So, great for when you just want a light read.

A summer read to entertain the romantic in you! This book is a massive lesson in communicating clearly with others. It was sweet, funny, sad and frustrating so you'll get your money's worth on the emotion scale and the narration was quite good. All in all, it's entertaining and a good listen when you don't have time to sit down and read a book.

This was a mixed bag for me. I loved Jason Clarke’s narration but not the character he plays. On the other hand, I loved Nissa’s character but I didn’t like Tanya’s voice.

I felt that the main conflict was manufactured. There was nothing in Desmond’s characterization that explained his actions that broke him and Nissa apart.

Ultimately, I think this book is better read visually than aurally.

I listened to this book. It was a free one on audible. Not one of my favorites. I think is has a lot to do with the narrators. However, the short end of this story is that Neissa breaks off her wedding to her finance and goes back home for a visit and sees a long lost family free that she falls in love with.
A happily ever after story.

Eh. This was fine, I guess. I liked the start, but the third act breakup really didn't work for me. Their issues are poorly developed and very cliched. Admittedly, the audio narration was also only so-so for me, which probably did not help.
