I had no idea the Norseman was bigger than the Beaver! :o

600 hp vs. 450 for the Beaver and a much higher gross weight in their original configurations. The Norseman is an impressive beast in all of it's fabric covered, oil slobbering glory!

Beaver trivia: the odd shape of the cabin doors is to allow a 55 gallon drum to be loaded either standing upright or laid on it's side.

Norseman trivia: big band leader Glenn Miller dissapeared in a us military Norseman in WWII

The Beaver and Norseman were designed for a single purpose of hauling freight into the bush as economically as possible. Simple and rugged were the top priorities.

Last I heard, they think they might have found his airplane at the bottom of the English Channel.

One theory is that it was downed by bombs from a higher-flying bomber outfit that had aborted and was jettisoning their bombs in the Channel on the way home. Doubly tragic, if true.

Clutch Cargo normally flew a Bellanca Airbus/Aircruiser, but in at least one episode, he's flying a Norseman.

in my younger days I was lucky to fly for a seaplane company that took anglers to the Bahamas, one season we had a Beaver on Edo floats so I was able to get some hours flying it. a great plane and one of the only planes that I know of that you can add engine oil in flight as there is a fill in the co-pilots floor. I have the Canadian Mist kit and thankfully since I was also a mechanic for the company I have all my service and parts manuals. I hope to be able to put the interior in mine.
