Crytek Hints at Crysis 2 Remaster

A trio of cryptic Crytek tweets all but confirm the remaster is happening.

Back in April 2020, it was revealed that Crytek was working on a remaster of Crysis. Just over a year later, it looks as though Crysis 2 might be getting the same treatment.

As Eurogamer reports, three tweets on the official Crysis Twitter account suggest that a Crysis 2 Remaster announcement is imminent. The first tweet simply says "They used to call me Prophet," which is a reference to Crysis 2 character Laurence "Prophet" Barnes. The second tweet is a wide-eyed emoji, and the third tweet is the same emoji, but accompanied by an image that's clearly taken from Crysis 2.

A Crysis 2 remaster makes sense this year because it's the tenth anniversary of the game's original launch back in March 2011. And just like with Crysis Remastered, we should expect new graphical assets, improved lighting, 8K textures, and support for ray-tracing. We will also likely see a release across PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, plus some greater enhancements for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners. Could that include a locked 60fps experience?

Crysis Remastered was announced on April 16 2020, and released on Switch July 23, while the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions didn't release until Sept. 18. For Crysis 2 Remastered, it seems likely Crytek would want to release all versions at the same time, so perhaps we'll see another September release announced in the coming days or weeks. It would be nice to have the game available to play over the summer, though.
