Bifen IT Insecticide
Bifen IT Insecticide
Bifen IT, manufactured by Control Solutions Inc., is a multi-purpose suspended concentrate insecticide designed for broad-spectrum control of 75 types of insects like termites, earwigs, cockroaches, and more.
This professional strength formula contains a synthetic pyrethroid, and the active ingredient bifenthrin 7.9% that works by interfering with the target insect's nervous system leading to eventual death. As a flowable multi-use product it can be applied numerous ways such as a foam, injected into concrete slabs, or a suspended concentrate sprayed into cracks and crevice treatments. Once applied, Bifen IT will dry clear leaving behind no-stains or odor.
Bifen IT Insecticide does not provide a quick knockdown, but it does provide a long-lasting residual of 3 months to keep pests from making their way indoors.
Tools Needed
To use Bifen IT you will need either a hose-end sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or skid sprayer.
For small household jobs, we recommend a handheld 1-gallon pump sprayer or a 4-gallon backpack sprayer. If Bifen IT is being used for termite control by trenching, a shovel or dirt removal tool and a wheelbarrow will be needed.
How To Use
For General Treatments
- Step 1: Determine how much Bifen IT you will need by calculating the square footage of the area you wish to treat. To do this, measure the length and width of the treatment area in feet then multiply (length x width = square footage). Depending on the pest on the lawn, use 0.18 to 1.0 fl. oz. of Bifen IT per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. of turfgrass. For perimeter applications, use 0.33 to 1.0 fluid oz. of Bifen I/T per 1 gallon of water per 1,000 square feet. For livestock and poultry housing structures, use 0.33 to 1 fl. oz. of Bifen IT per gallon of water per 1,000 sq. ft. For ornamentals and trees, apply 0.125 to 1.0 fl. oz. of Bifen I/T per 2.3 gallons of water per 1,000 square feet or 5.4 to 43.5 fl. oz. of product per 100 gallons of water.
- Step 2: In a handpump sprayer, fill up the spray tank half way with water and the add Bifen IT at the appropriate rate based on your calculations. Add the rest of the needed water to the spray tank and mix or agitate well. It is suggested to shake or mix a pump sprayer periodically to ensure an even application and to ensure the sprayer does not get clogged.
- Step 3: Make crack and crevice treatments indoors, and broadcast sprays or cracks and crevice treatments outdoors. Keep all people and pets off treated areas until dry.
- Step 4: When used as an insecticide spray on lawns, spray the top and bottom of leaves until wet, but not to the point of runoff. Postpone irrigation or mowing for 24 hours after application to obtain the best possible control.
For Termite Trench Treatments
- Step 1: To create a trench around your home foundation's perimeter, remove soil with a shovel or other appropriate tool, and place the dirt in a wheelbarrow. Dig the trench 6 inches wide and 6 inches deep.
- Step 2: For pre-construction horizontal barrier treatments, mix Bifen IT at the rate of 1 oz. per gallon of water and apply under concrete slab at a rate of 1 finished gallon of solution per 10 square feet. When trench treating your entire home perimeter, add 4 gallons of 0.06% diluted solution per 10 linear feet. Mix the Bifen IT solution well and then pour the solution into the dug trench every 10 linear feet. Pour the Bifen IT slowly so that it evenly disperses through the entire trench.
- Step 3: Once the entire perimeter trench is treated with the Bifen IT solution, place the soil back into the trench.
- Step 4: You should then use a handpump sprayer to create a 1 gallon solution of Bifen IT and treat the soil you used to fill the trench back up.
Where To Use
Bifen IT can be used in and around homes, commercial and industrial buildings, recreational areas, athletic fields, lawns and ornamentals. It may also be used in livestock and poultry houses.
This product can be applied to flowers, foliage plants, non-bearing fruit and nut trees, shrubs, and ornamental trees, in interior and exterior plantscapes, such as those in hotels, office buildings, shopping malls, etc., and around athletic fields, homes, institutional buildings, parks, and recreational areas.
Not for use on sod farm turf, golf course turf, or grass grown for seed.
When To Use
Bifen IT can be used as a preventative treatment by creating an insecticidal barrier as a spray to keep insects and various bug from getting indoors. It can also be used as a treatment once targeted insects have been spotted.
Apply Bifen IT on warm, calm days when wind speeds are low to minimize drift and rain is not in the immediate forecast. When applying Bifen IT indoors, we recommend to time your application for when the treated area(s) will not be occupied by people or pets for at least a couple hours so that the solution has time to dry.
Safety Information
Bifen IT is safe to use around children and pets when it is applied according to the product label instructions. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or making applications.
Keep children and pets out of the treated area until the spray has completely dried.
Special Considerations
It is possible that target insects develop a resistance to Bifen IT's active ingredient, Bifenthrin. If over time your applications seem to be less effective, switch out your insecticide treatment with a product that has a different active ingredient and mode of action.
For faster control of insect pests, we recommend mixing Bifen IT with an insect growth regulator (IGR) to target both insect adults and younger-staged insects.

Q:What happens if I get it on my hands?7/25/23A:Nothing will happen to your hands. This is a low toxicity insecticide. Just wash your hands with soap and water immediately after exposure. Use chemical resistant gloves in order to avoid getting in on you in the future as you do want to avoid prolonged or frequent contact with any chemical.

Q:What is the application rate to control small/young grasshoppers in my back yard ?7/9/23A:I would say the lighter side of the recommended Dodge will do. I use the middle rate to control scorpions in AZ and see a bunch of dead critters (including grasshoppers). If mid rate is good for scorpions then the low rate should still be good for grasshoppers.
