We turned a grain silo into a tiny home – people think it looks so cool… it’s even got a hot tub

A COUPLE have revealed how they turned a grain silo into a tiny home that even has a hot tub.

Matt and Shelley Carter figured the abandoned grain silo would make the perfect holiday home and got to work straight away transforming it into a luxe cottage.

The tiny 500-square-foot has been fittingly named the Silo Cottage, which the couple renovated on their own.

Speaking to Insider, Matt said he did all of the plumbing, electrical work, and other needed elements for a tiny home with the help of Shelley, 43, who decorated and designed the interiors.

The house took one year to complete in total and cost the couple around £78,000 ($100,000) to totally transform.

To make the space bigger, Matt, 36, decided to build two wooden frames on each end of the silo to host the bedroom and bathroom.

The bedroom features a queen-sized bed with modern interiors and the bathroom has a large shower, toilet and sink.

In the middle of the house, Matt and Shelly made the most of the silo by turning it into a stunning front room and kitchen area.

The 25ft high ceilings have exposed wooden beams and a black chandelier to make the most of the unique structure.

The front room also has a smart TV and built-in fireplace and a table and two chairs to sit and enjoy meals.

Outside the property lies the perfect relaxing spot to watch nature go by.

The porch is kitted with two swings, a hot tub and a seating area with a fireplace for the evenings.

But Matt revealed it was definitely his hardest build yet.

The couple who have made two shipping container homes struggled with the circular structure of the silo.

"I regretted it about halfway through because of how much work it was to build in circles," Matt joked.

"The silo is by far the hardest build I've ever done in my life," Matt said. "You think you know numbers until you start going in circles, and it makes a difference. It definitely took a toll on my mind."

Matt revealed the ceiling is covered in tongue-and-groove boards, which meant he had to make 867 cuts in the ceiling to install each piece of drywall properly.

While it may have been a difficult task, the couple don't regret their hard work.

Now, they have been able to buy their dream home: a 106-acre farm about two miles from the cottages.

The couple who own Hocking Hills Cottage Company rent the three cottages out on Airbnb and are now raking in the money.

The pair rent out Silo Cottage for £224 ( $285) per night in Ohio.

Recently, one artist revealed how he built a house made from mud for just £150 so he could live rent-free in nature.

He used a mixture of water, mud and straw to create the foundations of the unique property, wood he sourced locally for the structure and glass he got for free to create windows.
