Chelsea news: Blues make big step in chase of Bordeaux starlet Malcom

CHELSEA have spoken with the representatives of Bordeaux forward Malcom to discuss a transfer this summer, according to reports.

The Brazilian’s 12 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances in Ligue 1 have seen him pop up on the radar of a number of European heavyweights with Chelsea just the latest club to add to the list.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been previously linked but French outlet Sud-Ouest report that the Blues are the latest club to look at Malcom.

And they’ve gone one step further than that, if the reports are to be believed, with Chelsea officials said to have held talks over the possibility of a summer switch.

Malcom’s agent Fernando Garcia is thought to have met with Chelsea staff in London as he looks to engineer a career-changing move for his client.

Bordeaux’s Malcom showcases his impressive skills

It is reported that Bordeaux will demand €50million (£44m) to be relieved of Malcom’s services with the youngster having become one of the continent’s hottest properties at just 21.

Malcolm only signed a new contract extension with Bordeaux back in September which commits him to the French club until 2021.

But the South American has regularly hinted at a desire to make the step up to a higher-quality league such as the Premier League, having said back in January: “It’s a dream for all players [to play in England].

“And for me it’s no different. I don’t know if I’ll stay. I don’t know if I’m going to leave.”

Chelsea face an uncertain future of their own with their managerial situation no clearer than it was in the immediate aftermath of their FA Cup final triumph last month.

Antonio Conte had widely been expected to leave, and still is, but there has been little movement regarding the Italian’s standing despite constant links to new managers.

Interest in Maurizio Sarri is thought to have waned although negotiations were previously at an advanced stage with ex-Barcelona boss now said to be the front-runner. Fulham’s Slavisa Jokanovic and Laurent Blanc are among the other names linked.

Chelsea are without Champions League football next term and will hope that does not hinder them in their chase of the highly-regarded Malcom, who has also been suggested as a target for Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.
