West Ham are in pole position to sign Mohamed Konate, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (May 3rd, page 67).

The 17-year-old Mali ace is one of the brightest young prospects in the game, and has really impressed scouts who have watched him play this season for AS Black Stars (Mirror).

Konate is a centre-back by trade. And David Moyes might just be looking to bolster his defensive ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

Angelo Ogbonna has enjoyed a fine campaign this season. But he is set to turn 32 at the end of the month. Meanwhile, Winston Reid and Issa Diop face uncertain futures at West Ham.

Konate, 17, would surely not be ready to play first-team football for a Premier League side just yet, however. The Mali centre-back would undoubtedly be a signing made with one eye on the future.

The Mirror (May 3rd, page 67), claims that the AS Black Stars ace is a target for West Ham. And the Hammers are allegedly in pole position to sign him for just £400,000. The east London outfit could face competition from Benfica and Bordeaux, however.

Only time will tell if West Ham manage to bring the talented starlet to east London this summer.

One thing’s for sure. £400,000 in today’s market might end up looking like a real bargain for the Hammers.
