Gilb Museum Gets New Name

Confusion with other groups prompted the name change.

The Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum has taken on a new moniker: The Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage.

Confusion with other organizations also bearing "historical" in their names prompted the switch. Curator Dana Dunn said the new name better reflects the museum's purpose.

"A lot of people just aren't interested in history," Dunn said. "We want to try to find what everyone enjoys and what they want to see in the museum. Arts, history and culture is more what our mission is."

"(Heritage) is an all-inclusive word."

The change will go into effect immediately. The museum is already getting new business cards and brochures and updating its Web site. Meanwhile, the city will pay $3,400 to replace the sign outside the  museum.

"We've got an ongoing list of things we need to change," Dunn said with a laugh. "It's like Jan. 1 when you start writing your checks or whatever you do and you have to change the year. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to that."
