The Damböckhaus is located in the middle of the high plateau, about a 15-minute walk from the terminus of the cog railway. The shelter is an intermediate stop on the almost one-hour walk to the Fischerhütte.

The Damböckhaus is a refuge of the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) am Schneeberg in Lower Austria.
